Dimapur, Feb 14: BJP National President J.P. Nadda has asserted that the Naga political issue is now in a final stage and PM Narendra Modi is very enthusiastic for the solution of the Naga issue.
While addressing a joint election rally of BJP and NDPP in Kohima, Nadda said, “We are working on the issue for last many years and the BJP leadership led by Amit Shah has been working tirelessly for the solution of the Naga issue. The political leaders of Nagaland witnessed this development.”
Nadda has been in Nagaland for campaigning of BJP candidates. BJP have put up 20 candidates for the 60-member assembly. NDPP, alliance partner of BJP, will contest in 40 assembly seats.
“Our government has been taking all possible steps to resolve the decade old Naga issue. We have withdrawn the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) from many police stations across Nagaland,” Nadda reiterated.
The BJP president said, “Congress once ruled several northeastern and south Indian states including Tamil Nadu for many years. But they are nowhere to be seen because the party failed to understand the regional aspirations. Hence, many regional parties came up in these states including West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh.”
The influential Naga body Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) after getting an assurance from the Union Home Minister on February 4 withdrew its call to boycott the February 27 Assembly polls in support of its demand for a separate ‘Frontier Nagaland’ state.
Claiming that the six districts of Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire, Longleng, Noklak and Shamator have been neglected for years, the ENPO has been demanding a separate state since 2010.
The 60-member Nagaland Assembly will go for polls on February 27.
