Nagaland’s lone Lok Sabha Seat set to witness triangular contest, 3 candidates are in fray

Nagaland, April 18: The lone Lok Sabha seat for Nagaland will go to polls on the first phase of the Lok Sabha on April 19 and is set to witness a triangular contest as three candidates will be contesting for the seat.

Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) is fielding Dr Chumben Murry, who is also the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) consensus candidate, while Congress is fielding Nagaland Congress President S Supongmeren Jamir and Hayithung Tungoe Lotha is an Independent candidate.

All arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of elections to the lone Lok Sabha in Nagaland where over 13.25 lakh voters on Friday will decide the fate of three candidates in the fray.

A total of 13,25,383 electorates will be eligible to exercise their franchise, including more than 19,999 first-time voters, 22,140 senior citizens above 85 years and 6,707 people with disabilities.

Altogether 180 polling parties for the 2,342 polling stations have left for their polling booths.

Of the total 2,342 polling booths, 588 polling stations have been marked as critical and vulnerable.

There are 506 all-women polling stations while four booths will be managed by persons with disabilities.

Six districts from Eastern part of Nagaland have decided to abstain from participation in the election over their demand for Frontier Nagaland Territory. About 3 lakh 99 thousand general electors represent the Eastern Nagaland.
