Shillong, May 26: The Executive Council (EC) meeting of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) will be held on May 30.
Informing this on Monday, Meghalaya’s lone Rajya Sabha MP, Dr WR Kharlukhi, said, “I just came from a function at NEHU. I think the government is already in touch and they are going to have an executive council meeting in Delhi on May 30.”
He said that the EC has been called in Delhi to discuss the ongoing crisis being faced by the University.
Dr Kharlukhi also observed that the situation in NEHU is returning back to normalcy with the taking charge of the Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Sherwin M Sugnoh.
“With the acting Vice Chancellor (taking charge), it is improving. Today, we were having a meeting and teachers and students were there. It is improving and it is normal,” he said.
On the demand for removal of the incumbent NEHU VC Prof PS Shukla, Dr Kharlukhi said, “Let us wait for the outcome of the (EC meeting) and only after we can decide what to do.”
Recently, a two-member Central team from the Ministry of Education visited Shillong to review the situation and functioning of NEHU.
