Dibrugarh, March 11: The announcement of a new water supply project for Longding township in Arunachal Pradesh has raised hopes of relief for residents who have long struggled with severe water scarcity.

Local public leaders of Longding district, led by Advocate Wangshu Wangsu, expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein for including the project in the state budget during the 6th (Budget) Session of the 8th Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Wangsu said the water shortage in Longding township has been a long-standing issue, causing hardship to residents for several years.

“The inclusion of the water supply project in the state budget is a historic step for the people of Longding district and the Wancho community,” he said.

Public leaders also thanked the Arunachal Pradesh government and Longding-Pumao MLA Thangwang Wangham for taking up the issue and ensuring that the long-pending demand was addressed.

They expressed hope that the project would be implemented at the earliest to provide reliable drinking water and improve living conditions in the township.

Meanwhile, the Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society (Longding branch) also welcomed the announcement, describing it as a much-needed intervention for the district.

The society thanked MLA Thangwang Wangham for highlighting the water crisis and acknowledged the role of the state leadership in approving the project.

According to the organisation, the water scarcity has particularly affected women in the district, who often bear the burden of fetching water for households.

“The announcement of this project has brought great hope and relief to the people of Longding district, especially women who face daily difficulties due to the lack of adequate water supply,” the society said in a statement.

Residents of Longding township have faced recurring water shortages for years, making access to safe drinking water a persistent challenge.
