Guwahati, July 17: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two more individuals in connection with the recovery of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by the ULFA(I) terror group near Dispur Last Gate, Guwahati. The planting of the IED was part of a larger conspiracy to carry out multiple blasts across Assam on Independence Day in 2024.
The accused, Bhargob Gogoi and Sumu Gogoi, residents of Dibrugarh district in Assam, were directly involved in the conspiracy orchestrated by the proscribed terrorist organisation with the intent to spread terror and undermine the sovereignty, security, and integrity of the nation.

With these arrests, the total number of individuals taken into custody in the case (RC-03/2024/NIA-GUW) has risen to three.
The NIA had taken over the investigation from Dispur Police in September last year. Last month, the agency filed a chargesheet against three individuals under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act [UA(P)A], and the Explosive Substances Act.
Further investigations are ongoing.
