NIA’s wanted human trafficker, arrested by Tripura police in Sepahijala

Agartala, May 20: Tripura police arrested a human trafficker on Sunday, who was wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The accused has been identified as- Hannan Miah (41) and he was detained from Matinagar area of Western Tripura’s Sepahijala district.

According to police, he will be taken to Guwahati NIA on Monday for further investigation.

“Hannan was an ‘infamous human trafficker’, and he was wanted in connection with a human trafficking case pursued by the NIA and the case has been pending in the national probe agency court in Guwahati,” said a police official.

He said that Hannan was arrested as per requisition of the NIA, and he was already handed over to a team of central probe agency.

In a joint operation based on digital surveillance, the NIA and the BSF arrested 29 touts in November and December last year. Five people accused of involvement in human trafficking were arrested in different parts of Tripura in that operation.
