Shillong, Jan 19: A Sessions Court on Wednesday sentenced National People’s Party’s (NPP) working president in East Jaintia Hills District, Nidamon Chullet, to life imprisonment in connection with a murder case.
Chullet is also the president of the Jaintia Hills Truck Owners’ Association (JHTOA).
The Court of the Sessions Judge, West Jaintia Hills District, B Khriam convicted and sentenced Chullet to undergo imprisonment for life for the offense punishable under section 302 IPC.
Following the judgment, he was immediately taken into judicial custody, sources said.
Chullet was also accused to be the main ‘mastermind’ behind the brutal attack and murder attempt on two social activists – Agnes Kharshiing and Amita Sangma at Tuber Sohshrieh village on November 8, 2018.
