No possibility of bringing back former leaders to party: AICC in-charge Manish Chatrath

Shillong, June 3: AICC in-charge Manish Chatrath on Friday ruled out any possibility to bring back former leaders to the party’s fold.

Addressing media persons, Chatrath said he is not aware of any move to bring back former Congress leader Dr. Mukul Sangma. “I don’t think that my PCC president or any of the working presidents are aware of it. This is news which you are giving to us,” he said while reacting to reports.

Chatrath also informed that the five suspended Congress MLAs are not in touch with him. “If they have spoken to Pala that I don’t know but we have suspended them,” he said.

The AICC leader further said that the Congress has its own strategy as the elections are approaching in 7-8 months. “There will be few surprises. There are people who wanted to join us but as of now let us keep it as a surprise only,” he added.

When asked, Chatrath said that it is not in the Congress DNA to demean anybody including the former leaders.

“We are not like that. Those who have gone, we wish them luck, we are not against anybody as that is their choice (to leave the party). Now we are organizing ourselves, we have good people, we have good faces, we have good organization as compared to any other party in the state,” he stated.

Meanwhile, MPCC president Vincent Pala said it would be wrong on the part of the five suspended Congress MLAs to say that they were not given a chance.

“It is totally wrong as we have written a letter to them asking them to clarify or to answer, we have call for explanation but they did not reply and it was in the press that they said they are not going to reply and the question Congress did not give them a chance does not arise,” he said.
