Imphal, March12: The indefinite shutdown called by the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has severely affected normal life in the Kuki-Zo areas of Manipur.
The shutdown entered its fourth day on Wednesday. The protest was called in response to the resumption of bus services between the state capital, Imphal, and the hill districts, as well as police action in tribal areas on March 8.
“The situation in Kuki-Zo tribal-inhabited areas, especially in Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts, remains tense. However, no untoward incidents have been reported from the tribal-dominated areas following Saturday’s (March 8) clashes with security forces,” said an official.

KZC activists, supporters, and members of other tribal organizations, including a large number of women, held demonstrations in various areas of Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and other affected regions.
“A large contingent of security forces, comprising the Army, Central, and state forces, have been deployed in Kuki-Zo tribal-inhabited areas of Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, and Pherzawl districts, as well as in the mixed-population Jiribam district, which shares a border with southern Assam,” the official added.
