Agartala, December 7: Tripura marked a landmark moment in its sporting journey on Sunday as Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the GFI Bharat Golf Mahotsav at the Tusker BSF Golf Course in Salbagan — officially placing the state on India’s national golf map for the first time.
Jointly organised by the Tripura Golf Association and the BSF Golf Club, Agartala, the event is being celebrated as a game-changing push for Tripura’s emerging sports ecosystem. Calling it a proud milestone, Dr. Saha said the government is committed to strengthening golf infrastructure and encouraging youth participation, adding that sports like golf can play a meaningful role in steering young people away from drug abuse.

He further noted that a full-fledged golf course could unlock major economic benefits, including eco-tourism growth, job creation, and new avenues for hospitality and local enterprise — aligning with the vision of a “Nasha Mukt Tripura.”
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Tinku Roy, IG BSF (Tripura Frontier) Aloke Kumar Chakraborty, GFI General Secretary Ariyaveer Arya, and Tripura Golf Association President Devid Debbarma.
Minister Roy highlighted the rapid build-out of sports infrastructure across the state and said he believes golf courses — especially in scenic destinations like Jampui Hills — could become significant tourism magnets.
IG Chakraborty added that Tripura’s natural terrain is exceptionally suited for golf and that cities with golf courses often see parallel growth in hospitality, transport, real estate, and indigenous handicraft markets through luxury tourism.
After the unveiling, Dr. Saha, accompanied by Minister Roy and the BSF IG, inspected the course and interacted with officials.

GFI General Secretary Arya shared that the Bharat Golf Mahotsav, part of the GFI Tour 2025, began on September 17 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday — and will conclude on January 12, commemorating Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary.
