Dimapur, Oct 15: In a major political development, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) has officially joined the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.

In an ordinance issued on Tuesday, NPF President Apong Pongener announced that the party “shall officially join the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government under the leadership of Dr. Neiphiu Rio.” The order, signed by NPF Secretary General and MLA Achumbemo Kikon, came into effect from the forenoon of October 14.

Earlier in the day, Rio met former NPF president and former Chief Minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu to seek his support and blessings for the new political chapter.

The Chief Minister’s Office has called a meeting of PDA partners on October 15 at the Chief Minister’s Residential Complex in Kohima.

Rio, a three-time chief minister and former Lok Sabha MP, was earlier part of the NPF before forming the NDPP following internal disputes. The NPF’s decision to join the PDA government is seen as a move to strengthen regional unity and cooperation in Nagaland’s political scene.
