Kohima, June 28: The National People’s Party (NPP) is strengthening its presence in Nagaland, with several senior political leaders from the state formally joining the party at a programme held in Kohima on Friday.
The new members were welcomed by NPP National President and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who described it as a proud moment reflecting the party’s growing influence in the Northeast.
Conrad recalled the party’s journey since its transformation in 2012, when his father and founder, the late P.A. Sangma, took over as National President. He acknowledged the many challenges of building a party from the ground up in the Northeast, but credited the success to patience, commitment, and a focused approach to regional issues.
“Building a party is not an easy task. It is very challenging, especially because there are so many factors in local politics that we cannot ignore. But through perseverance and hard work, we have kept the flag flying high and made a mark in national politics,” he said.
He further noted that the NPP is the only national party born and built entirely by the people of the Northeast, without outside influence.
“NPP was born in the Northeast, built by the people of the Northeast, with no outside influence. Today, we proudly stand as the only party from the region with national party status. That is a big thing,” Conrad added.
The induction of new leaders from Manipur is expected to further bolster the party’s base and unity across the region.
During the event, Conrad also congratulated Ane-ü Khaming on her appointment as the new National President of the National People’s Women’s Front (NPWF).
