Shillong, May 14: The National People’s Party (NPP) on Wednesday strongly condemned the killing of Baptist church leaders in Manipur, describing the attack as a “heinous” and “cowardly” act of violence against unarmed civilians.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the party said the victims were respected members of the Kuki Baptist community associated with the Manipur Baptist Convention and the Kuki Church Leaders Forum.The NPP said the church leaders had dedicated their lives to “spiritual guidance, peacebuilding, and service to humanity,” adding that targeting such individuals was “a grave assault on the values of harmony, compassion, and coexistence.”

Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families and the wider Kuki Baptist community, the party extended condolences to the families of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the incident.

The NPP also urged the Centre and the Manipur government to launch a “thorough, transparent, and time-bound investigation” to identify and punish those responsible without delay. The party stressed that accountability was essential to restore confidence among affected communities.

Raising concerns over repeated attacks on civilians and community leaders in conflict-hit areas, the party called for stronger security measures to protect vulnerable communities and prevent further violence.

The statement further appealed to civil society organisations, community leaders and citizens to work collectively toward restoring peace, harmony and mutual trust across Manipur and the Northeast.
