Shillong, March 23: The National People’s Youth Front (NPYF) slam UDP General secretary Jemino Mawthoh for demanding the removal of Power Minister James Sangma for mismanagement in the Power Sector.

The NPP Youth Wing in a Press Release said, “Knowing the difficulties related to electricity that the government was trying to solve guided by the Power Minister, Mr. Mawthoh – who has been a silent spectator of politics all this while – suddenly found a good opportunity to gain political mileage. ”

Earlier, the United Democratic Party (UDP) has sought the immediate removal of the incumbent Power Minister James K Sangma for alleged “mismanagement” leading to an unprecedented power shutdown in the state.

In a letter to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday, UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh said, “In view of the ongoing serious financial bankruptcy and other financial and administrative mismanagement in the power department, plunging the state into an unprecedented power shutdown, affecting the normal life in the state in general, UDP urges your good office, to kindly relieve the power minister and the current CMD of MeECL from their current positions with immediate effect.”

Talking about it further, NPP Youth Wing president Nicky Nongkhlaw said, “The fact that Mr. James Sangma and the CMD continuously negotiated for resolving the power cuts issue is why NEEPCO has consented to withdraw its regulations in the first place.”

Making a personal attack on senior UDP leader, Nongkhlaw said, “Under Mr. Mawthoh’s paradigm, MeECL would have been a headless chicken without a leadership to negotiate with the situation, thereby delaying difficulties furthermore.”

Accusing Jemino Mawthoh for politicising the matter ahead of the 2023 election for political mileage, the NPP Youth Wing leader said,

“All of a sudden, on Monday Mr. Mawthoh felt that he should start fishing in troubled waters because the 2023 elections are coming up.”

“Hence, he should hard try once again and become relevant in the eyes of the people of Nongthymmai, whom he misled during his tenure as a legislator,” he added.
