Jowai, Oct 22: Villagers of Lapangap in West Jaintia Hills on Wednesday resumed paddy harvesting in their fields, nearly two weeks after violent clashes with Karbi villagers from Tahpat in West Karbi Anglong on October 9, which resulted in the death of one person.
Before heading to the paddy fields at Pynthor Lapangap, villagers assembled near the village football field to await the outcome of a dialogue held at Khanduli between officials and leaders from both sides including representatives of West Jaintia Hills and Lapangap Village and those of West Karbi Anglong District and Tahpat Village.

Following the meeting, the villagers, joined by residents from neighbouring villages, proceeded to the fields around 10:15 a.m. to begin the harvest. The gathering saw the participation of hundreds of people, reflecting a spirit of cooperation and calm.
Leaders from the Synjuk ki Waheh Chnong Ri Jaintia (a conglomeration of village heads from Jaintia Hills) and representatives from prominent NGOs, including the FKJGP, KSU and JSU, also accompanied the villagers in a show of solidarity.
Security forces from both Assam and Meghalaya were deployed in and around the area to ensure the harvest took place peacefully and without any further incident.
