Shillong, April 27: Hitting back at the Congress chief Vincent H Pala for his allegation over the Assam-Meghalaya boundary agreement issue, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday said Pala has some problem with the Dhar family as they are now richer than him. He also suggested that two families should work together instead of pulling down at each other.
“The way the allegation is made, it seems that Pala has some problem with the Dhar family, maybe because the Dhar family is now richer than him. So this is not the spirit and this is not the way of alleging anybody. Pala is from our state, Dhar is from our state. Why not these two people instead of trying to pull each other down, why not work together,” Tynsong told reporters.
On Monday, Pala had alleged that the MDA government’s decision to sign the MoU for resolving the dispute in 6 areas of difference was for “somebody’s interest” to ensure a ‘5-Star Hotel’ at Khanapara comes to Meghalaya. Pala had also alleged that the land of the Hotel belongs to some big shots in the government.
Terming the allegation as childish, Tynsong said, “Being the MP and being the president of MPCC, I think he should not talk this way. I think this is not at all a good sign… I never expected that Pala would do this way.”
The deputy chief minister also asked Pala to come up with other areas and point out who are the families that have benefitted and those who have not.
“He is just like a kid who is targeting one family. I would like to ask Pala to also come up with other areas, not only Khanapara area. Let him come up with Pillangkata area, Maikhuli area, who are the families that are benefited and then in West Khasi Hills. Come up but don’t be specific as the way he alleged it seems there is some sort of personal problem among them but we are not here for any personal problem of anybody,” he said.
He said it will be no surprise to the MDA government that more allegations will come up before the elections but “we will leave it to the wisdom of the people of Meghalaya. Let them judge whether the allegations made are right or wrong.”
Stating that the government is committed to resolve the 50-year-old boundary dispute with Assam, Tynsong said the decision to sign the MoU for resolving the 6 of the 12 areas of difference was for the interest of the generation to come.
“Once it is resolved, peace and tranquility will prevail in these areas of difference for generation to generation,” he said.
According to him, the government is not going in the line of who will benefit and who will not benefit as alleged by the Congress leader.
