Williamnagar, June 30: Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister Marcuise N. Marak on Friday visited and inspected the Augmentation of Greater Water Supply Scheme in Samanda.

This scheme was approved under the Jal Jeevan Mission in 2021.

The minister was accompanied by Additional Chief Engineer Sanjay Kumar Gajmer, Superintending Engineer of PHED Saljrang M Sangma, Executive Engineer of PHED Simsanggre Division Sujeet P Marak, and SDO PHE Tengchrang G Momin.

Despite heavy rainfall, the minister and his team visited several water tanks constructed in Samanda, which provide drinking water to 20 villages comprising approximately 1410 households. Additionally, they toured the Water Treatment Plant at Megaggre Songgital.

Following the site visits, the minister and the local villagers gathered at Samanda Megapgre Community Hall to engage in a conversation. Some villagers expressed their concerns about inadequate water supply in their village. In response, SDO of PHE, Tengchrang G. Momin, provided an explanation for the issue.

Marcuise N. Marak assured the villagers that sufficient water would be provided to all, but he emphasized the importance of cooperation from the villagers and advised against engaging in any fraudulent activities.

The minister informed the villagers that during the inspection, he discovered instances of individuals trespassing into the water storage tanks and illegally manipulating the valves. These individuals even went as far as breaking the valve keys. As a result, the water supply to other villages was affected. Therefore, the minister urged the villagers to refrain from such activities and work together with the department to ensure a consistent water supply for all.

The Minister also urged the DPMU JJM to conduct IEC Activities in the villages covered under the scheme.
