PHE Minister Renikton Tongkhar inaugurates Renovation of Jowai Water Supply Scheme

Jowai, May 27: PHE Minister Renikton L. Tongkhar on Friday inaugurated the ‘Renovation of Jowai Water Supply Scheme’, which was sanctioned in the year 2003. The sanctioned amount for the scheme was Rs. 15.41 crore under the NLCPR.

During the day, foundation stones for Mihmyntdu Water Supply Scheme, with an sanctioned amount of Rs. 32 rores, and the Combined Khliehtyrshi Water Supply Scheme sanctioned at an amount of Rs. 24 crores was also laid.

The PHE Minister appreciated the dedication that Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla has for the all round development of the Jowai Constituency, and thanked the officers from the PHE Dept for their work in implementing various water supply projects in the state.

Tongkhar also informed that only about 40,000 households out of about 5,88,000 households in the state are yet to get potable water supply under the JJM and hoped that the coverage will be completed soon.

Urban Affairs Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar stated Meghalaya has been recognised as the Best State for the implementation of JJM. He also mentioned a handful of upcoming projects in Jowai Constituency, like the Smart Road Project, the Smart Town, the Mini Secretariat, amongst others.

Earlier, MLA from Jowai, Wailadmiki Shylla, stated that during 2018 he had two main missions to accomplish, and the first one is the completion of the shopping complex at Iawmusiang and the Renovation of Jowai Water Supply Scheme. He expressed happiness that the water supply scheme has been inaugurated while further stating his optimism that Iawmusiang shopping Complex will also be completed at the earliest.
