Must read

Shillong, May 8: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has given an assurance to the people of the state that the ongoing peace-talks between the HNLC and the state government will see a positive outcome in the coming days.

“It is a continuous process and it is not very simple where there are so many factors that we need to consider and the discussion are on and it is going in the right direction,” the CM said while speaking to reporters on Monday.

Stating that the peace talks are on track, he said, “We are in touch with them (HNLC) and a lot of communication has taken up in the last few days.”

As the discussion are mostly confidential, Sangma said he cannot share all the details right now but stated that the communication has picked up and the government expects to see more positive outcomes in the coming days.

It is to be mentioned that the HNLC has been engaging with the State Government on peace talks from last year, albeit through unofficial channel. But it was only earlier this year that Meghalaya government received official communication from the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) on the ongoing peace talks. However, the outfit has raised certain points that need to be discussed.
