Itanagar, Oct 19: Chairman of TIPRA Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma has stressed on striving for regional aspiration through political assertion as he expressed that people from rest of India have very less information about Northeast and they always try to alienate people from Northeast.

Speaking at the Regional Conclave on the theme “Regional Aspiration, National Outlook” organised by the Arunachal unit of National People’s Party (NPP) on Tuesday at DK State Conventional Hall in Itanagar, Debbarma cited an instance during his time with Congress party wherein a leader of the party was offered ‘Mithun’, when he said that he wanted Indian food.

He also asked why political parties from Northeast, West Bengal and South India are termed as regional parties, while political parties from North India are assumed as national parties even if they do not have the national party tag.

He said he quit the Congress to launch his own political party in Tripura, which has a vote share of 55 percent today in the council election last year.

“We should have the courage to challenge the system,” he asserted.

Further mentioning that national ruling parties from Delhi have always played the policy of divide and rule, he said, “We have to think what is politically correct and always keep the interest of our people first, when we deal with Delhi.”

He also expressed that “in 2023, I will go down fighting or I will win. But in between, I will not compromise on the identity and the indigenous people of Tripura.”

The conclave was attended by the figures and leaders from across North East including NPP National President and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, NPP Spokesperson and Meghalaya Cabinet Minister James K Sangma, among others.

The NPP Chief also launched the book titled “Northeast: Issues, Dynamics and Emerging realities” authored by Renu Loyi and Prem Taba during the conclave.
