Shillong, June 23: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who also holds the Home (Police) portfolio, on Monday said the investigation into the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi is ongoing. He also strongly criticised a recent travel advisory issued by the United States.
Speaking to reporters, Tynsong confirmed that the investigation into the case is still underway. “Yes, the investigation is still on. I think you all are aware. As you are aware, the court has granted judicial custody to all five accused persons. The investigation is ongoing, so let us wait and see,” he said.
Tynsong also revealed that three more suspects have been arrested, including Lokendra Singh Tomar. “Yes, he’s one of them. Three of them are there. Of course, I don’t have all the details, but they will be brought to Shillong for further investigation because it has been found that they are linked to the killing of the late Raja,” he said.
When asked about the motive and whether it extended beyond a suspected love angle, Tynsong replied, “We are yet to come to any conclusion. Let us see from all angles. I’m not talking only about the love angle, but even beyond that. Right now, I can’t say anything. Let the investigation be completed, and once that is done, the truth will come out.”
Also reacting to the recent advisory issued by the US Government cautioning its citizens against visiting Meghalaya and other northeastern states, Tynsong expressed strong disapproval.
“It is very unfortunate that such an advisory was issued by the Government of the United States of America. I don’t know from where they got this report. Let me clarify—Meghalaya is the safest place. This has been witnessed not only by people from Meghalaya but throughout India and even globally. Meghalaya is in fact the safest place to come, to visit, and to spend holidays,” he stated.
