Nongpoh, Feb 20: The residents and elders of Raid Madan Kyrdem of eastern Ri Bhoi District have reiterated their firm opposition to the proposed state sponsored project of Solid Waste Management plant sanctioned at Mawlwai village.

The opposition to the project has garnered more support from social organizations such as the Ri Bhoi Dorbar, Ri Bhoi Youth Federation, Voice of the People Bri u Hynñiewtrep, Ri Bhoi District, the Eastern Ri Bhoi Development Council and the Village Elders and Sordars under Raid Madan Kyrdem.

During the public meeting held at Nongthymmai village on Saturday, a collective decision was taken not to allow the implementation of the Project at Mawlwai village and also demanded the State Government to listen to the voice of the local people of Raid Madan Kyrdem and to shift the project to other location but not in Ri Bhoi District.

The leaders who stressed on the menace of the Solid Waste Management included General Secretary of Ri Bhoi Dorbar G.S Shadap, the President of RBYF Bipul Thangkhiew and the representatives of the Raid Madan Kyrdem.
