New Delhi, April 22: Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh, on Monday, visited Siachen, the world’s highest battlefield, to carry out a first-hand assessment of the security situation. He also interacted with the soldiers deployed in the extreme weather and tough terrain conditions. The Raksha Mantri was accompanied by Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj Pande; General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar; and General Officer Commanding, 14 Corps Lieutenant General Rashim Bali.
The delegation conducted aerial reconnaissance before landing at a forward post situated at an altitude of 15,100 feet. They received a detailed briefing on operational readiness and engaged in discussions with ground commanders regarding the prevailing security challenges.
Addressing the soldiers stationed in the extreme weather and tough terrain conditions, Rajnath Singh lauded their unwavering dedication to safeguard the nation. He expressed profound gratitude for their sacrifices, emphasizing that every citizen’s sense of security is indebted to their valour and resilience.
Highlighting the significance of Siachen as a symbol of India’s sovereignty and determination, the Raksha Mantri likened it to a capital of courage, grit, and determination. He drew parallels to other major cities in India, emphasizing the pivotal role Siachen plays in the country’s defense narrative.
The recent commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Operation Meghdoot, Rajnath Singh hailed the historic success of the operation as a moment of immense pride for the nation. He paid tribute to the brave soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the Motherland by laying a wreath at the Siachen War Memorial.
Rajnath Singh’s visit to Siachen comes after his previous engagement with troops in Leh, where he celebrated Holi with them. Despite earlier postponements due to adverse weather conditions, the Raksha Mantri fulfilled his promise to visit the world’s highest battlefield and interact with the soldiers, underscoring his unwavering commitment to the welfare and morale of India’s armed forces.
