SHILLONG, FEB 11: Former West Shillong legislator Mohendro Rapsang has resigned from the National People’s Party (NPP), citing personal reasons.
In his resignation letter to NPP state president Prestone Tynsong on February 10, Rapsang said, “…I am tendering my resignation from the primary membership of the National People’s Party with immediate effect due to personal reasons.”
The former MLA expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the party over the past four years.
“I am truly grateful to the National People’s Party for giving me the opportunity to serve and work with the party over the past four years,” Rapsang said adding “The experience and support I received during my association with the party will always be valued.
I take this opportunity to wish the National People’s Party continued success in all its future endeavours.”
Rapsang had joined the NPP prior to the 2023 Assembly elections after being suspended by the Congress party for extending support to the MDA-I government.
He contested the elections on an NPP ticket but lost to UDP leader Paul Lyngdoh.
Sources indicate that Rapsang is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in preparation for the 2028 Assembly elections.
