Shillong, July 16: The Ri Bhoi district administration on Wednesday organised a 5-km marathon, “Run for SIR,” to create public awareness about the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll and encourage greater participation in the democratic process.
The event was organised by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi, through its Election Branch, in collaboration with the Office of the District Sports Officer.
The marathon flagged off from Saiden Indoor Stadium and concluded at the NSCA Indoor Stadium, Umlyngkdait, with participants joining the run to spread awareness about the importance of electoral roll revision and voter participation.
The event witnessed the participation of hundreds of young men and women from different parts of Ri Bhoi District. Senior district officials also joined the marathon alongside the participants as a gesture of encouragement and to promote the message of voter awareness.
The marathon was flagged off by Balakyntiew Ranee, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, in the presence of Andrew L. Myrthong, Assistant Commissioner and Block Development Officer of Umsning C&RD Block; Gameliel Mynliem, Assistant Commissioner and Block Development Officer of Mawhati C&RD Block; Akash Marak, Assistant Commissioner; Bobby L. Nongbet, District Sports Officer, Ri Bhoi, and other district officials.
In the men’s category, Lapynkhraw Thabah emerged champion, while Kobarlin Doloi secured the second position and Wincent Dia finished third. In the women’s category, Jeny Ramde claimed the top position, followed by Dakati Kyndait in second place and Julina Bongrung in third.
Cash prizes were awarded to the winners, with the first-place finishers receiving ₹6,000, the runners-up ₹4,000, and the third-place winners ₹2,000, as a token of appreciation and encouragement for their outstanding performances.
