Guwahati, Nov 11: In an unfortunate road accident, as many as ten persons were killed when a laden truck coming towards Karimganj from Tripura border side collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw under Patherkandi constituency in Karimganj district on Thursday.
According to reports, an auto-rickshaw carrying 10 Chhath devotees collided with a loaded truck near Assam’s border with Tripura, leaving all of them dead. Most of the dead include children and women, they added. Nine people died on the spot and one person was taken to hospital in a serious condition, said a police official.
The person, who was taken to the hospital, was later declared dead.
Police officials said the driver managed to flee but the Police have seized the truck and an investigation is underway.
Earlier, Patherkandi MLA Krishnendu Paul, in a social media post, urged upon the people to maintain calm. ”Request everyone to maintain peace in the area. As per current information, they were pilgrims returning from “Chaat Puja Ghat” Paul wrote.
