Shillong, Feb 25: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday said significant investments have been made in the education sector, including ₹1866 crore for 38 Eklavya Residential Schools and the upgrade of 2045 schools under Mission Education.
Replying to the budget discussion in the Assembly, Sangma said, “We are happy to inform you that a large number of schools have been upgraded… We have an investment of ₹1866 crore in 38 Eklavya Residential Schools.”
Highlighting on the progress made in the sector, Sangma said, “On education, when compared to the other states in the NE region, our population as per 2011 census was at 29 lakh and Tripura was at 36 lakh. Meghalaya had 14,500 schools whereas Tripura had only 4900 schools.”
Sangma pointed out that Meghalaya has 55160 teachers and 7783 government schools, with 4172 schools receiving adhoc grants.
“We are the only state providing grants in aid to 4172 schools, benefiting the education system,” he said.
