Guwahati, Apr 7: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), through its Uttar Assam Prant and Dakshin Assam Prant units, has lodged police complaints at Dispur Police Station in Guwahati and Silchar Police Station, seeking legal action over alleged hate speech by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge during a recent election rally in south Assam.
According to the complaints, Kharge made the remarks at an election rally in Nilambazar under the Karimganj South Assembly constituency in Sribhumi district. The RSS alleged that he compared the ideology of the RSS and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to a “poisonous snake” and suggested its elimination.
Citing the speech, the complaints claim Kharge said that just as a poisonous snake must be dealt with immediately, the RSS and BJP should be “eliminated,” invoking a religious reference during the address.
The RSS termed the remarks “derogatory, provocative and communally sensitive,” alleging they could incite hostility and violence against its members and BJP supporters while invoking religious sentiments in an election setting.
The complaints further contend that the statement amounts to a corrupt electoral practice under Section 83 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and accuse Kharge of promoting enmity between different groups and criminally intimidating the public.
They also warn that such remarks could aggravate communal tensions between communities and disturb public order if not addressed promptly.
The RSS said democratic discourse must remain within constitutional limits and urged authorities to take appropriate legal action.
