Science and tech need of the hour for economic growth: Meghalaya Speaker

Khanapara, Aug 5: A two-day International Conference on Innovation in Management, Science & Technology was on Friday inaugurated by Meghalaya Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM).

The Conference has been organised by the Department of Computer Science & Electronics, USTM in collaboration with the American Institute of Management & Technology (AIMT) and supported by University of Maryland Eastern Shore (USA). A galaxy of delegates and participants from 15 countries across the globe have gathered at USTM to join this two-day long Conference which have altogether 25 sessions. About 200 Research papers will be presented both in offline and online mode by scholars from India and abroad.

Inaugurating the Conference, Lyngdoh said that attention to underprivileged rural students, free education and the Payback policy are steps taken by USTM which are really appreciable. Speaking on the critical role of Science and Technology in the economic roadmap of India, he said, “Science and technology are the need of the hour for economic growth and that the conference will open new doors for research in emerging interdisciplinary areas.”

A Conference Souvenir was also released by the delegates present on the occasion.

After felicitation address by Prof GD Sharma, VC, USTM, Dr. Deva D. Sharma from The Global Knowledge Foundation (GKF), USA, stated that the conference is providing opportunity to scholars to network. Dr. H.S. Hota, Atal Bihari Vajpayee University, Bilaspur, India delivered his address as Chair of the session. Prof Dinesh Kumar Sharma from Maryland University also addressed the session.

National Exhibition and Seminar on Plasma Physics concludes

Meanwhile, the 5-day long National Exhibition and Seminar on Plasma Physics successfully concluded on Friday at the USTM with participation of more than 1000 students coming from 50 different schools and colleges of the region under the guidance of scientists from CPP-IPR Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India.

Health and Forest Minister of Meghalaya, James P. K. Sangma, joined the valedictory session as the Chief Guest and handed over Certificates to the participating young students. Sangma also inaugurated the Salim Ali Museum of Biological Diversity at I-Block of USTM.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. A. V. Ravi Kumar from IPR, Gujrat said, “This exhibition of plasma is aimed at introducing the topic to students and teachers and also show them its applications and opportunities to possibly pursue this field as a career.” He said that more than 20 exhibits were transported across the country from Gujarat so that the students of Assam and Meghalaya would be benefitted.
