Nongstoiñ, Aug 5: In fresh trouble along the Assam – Meghalaya border involving land encroachment, a group of Assamese entered the territory of Meghalaya on July 31, 2022, to take measurements in Umsynrih village, near Kamakhya Mandir, to build a police station of the Assam police in Umsynrih.

The police of West Khasi Hills went to investigate the matter and found that the people of Assam were forcefully going against the people of Umsynrih.

The plot which was measured by Assam residents is known to be owned by one Bines Nongbah (48) from Langpih village. This same plot of land is also the same that has been allegedly snatched by a non-local community.

It is to be mentioned that since the meeting of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at Langpih last year, there has been less chaos at the border areas of the neighbouring states but land encroachment by Assam has continued, becoming a major issue for the border residents.
