Guwahati, Nov 19: Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Tuesday underscored the need for coordinated, long-term strategies to strengthen the Northeast’s sports and food production ecosystems during two high-level task force meetings involving state governments and central officials.

At a meeting on sports development chaired by Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Scindia reiterated the “One Sport, One State” vision, urging Northeastern states to identify core disciplines and build focused excellence pathways. He called for quality coaching, talent identification, and technology-driven training systems, supported by improved sports infrastructure.

“With a comprehensive, result-oriented roadmap, the Northeast can emerge as India’s hub for high-performance sporting excellence,” he said. The meeting was attended by MoS Sports Raksha Khadse, Mizoram Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar, Meghalaya Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri, and officials from Assam and the Sports Authority of India.

In another session, Scindia participated in the Fourth High-Level Task Force on Milk, Eggs, Poultry, Meat and Fisheries, chaired by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, with officials from all Northeastern states.

The discussions focused on boosting the region’s food ecosystem by expanding production, strengthening cold-chain and logistics, upgrading value chains, and building skilled manpower to meet growing demand.

Scindia said the meeting had set in motion coordinated action between the Centre, states, and private stakeholders to build a more efficient, resilient, and connected agri-food network that ensures better livelihoods, stronger markets, and improved nutritional access across the Northeast.
