Gangtok, Jan 27: A Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) delegation met Governor Ganga Prasad on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum seeking President’s Rule in the state after ‘deteriorating law and order’.

The delegation was led by former Lok Sabha MP, P D Rai.

In a memorandum, submitted to Governor, SDF mentioned that under Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) the law and order situation deteriorated.

“We have urged the Governor to ensure safety and protection of socio-economic, political and fundamental rights of Sikkimese people as under Article 371 (F) of the Constitution,” an SDF leader said.

The workers of the ruling SKM had attacked SDF supporters in a village in South Sikkim earlier this week, injuring 15 of them while they were travelling to attend a programme, SDF stated in the memorandum.

The SDF delegation also sought assurance from the Governor to conduct a free and fair assembly polls in 2024.
