Dibrugarh, Apr 12: Security forces have arrested seven suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs) linked to the banned outfit ULFA (Independent) from multiple locations in Assam’s Tinsukia district and adjoining areas of Arunachal Pradesh.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Berlin Neog from Bordumsa, Mithu Gohain and Lilambar Moran from Pengeri, Bikash Deka from Kakopathar, Shiva Dev and Paritosh Dev from Miao in Arunachal Pradesh, and Manab Dey from Makum.
According to sources, all seven are suspected to have links with ULFA (I) and are believed to be involved in extortion activities as well as facilitating the transfer of sensitive information.
“The detained individuals were allegedly engaged in exchanging information with ULFA (I) over an extended period. The arrests were made following coordinated operations across multiple locations in the district,” a police official said.
Security agencies have launched a detailed investigation to uncover the wider network and potential cross-border connections of the group.
Meanwhile, police have begun interrogating the accused to ascertain the extent of their involvement with the proscribed outfit.
