Agartala, Apr 12: Polling for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections commenced at 7 am on Sunday amid tight security arrangements across the state.
Voters turned out in significant numbers early in the day to cast their ballots in favour of their preferred candidates.
Polling is underway across all eight districts of Tripura, with 1,257 booths set up to ensure smooth and orderly voting.
Key parties in the fray include the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Tipra Motha Party, Communist Party of India (Marxist), and the Indian National Congress.
A total of 9,62,547 registered voters are eligible to participate, deciding the fate of 173 candidates contesting from various political parties.
“Voting started at 7 am, and turnout has been satisfactory so far. No complaints or untoward incidents have been reported,” said Jagadish Debbarma, chairman of TTAADC and Tipra Motha candidate from 15 Jirania.
The TTAADC elections are considered significant in Tripura’s political landscape, with authorities focusing on ensuring a free, fair, and smooth electoral process.
