Shillong, June 2: The Taxi Drivers Welfare Association of East Khasi Hills on Friday strongly opposed the order of the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, which has imposed odd-even system for plying of local taxis and commercial buses in the Khyndailad and Motphran area.
The measure has been taken to ease the traffic congestion in the city.
The order stated that the plying of public transport vehicles waiting at these junctions – Khyndailad and Motphran – creates substantial congestion in these areas and poses a challenge for both traffic management and pedestrian safety.
The taxi drivers held a meeting at Madan Malki on Friday to showcase their unanimous protest against the DC’s order.
The local taxi drivers also met with the DC to demand revocation of the order.
