Guwahati, Sept 29: Shyamkanu Mahanta, chief organiser of the Northeast India Festival in Singapore, has declared his willingness to fully cooperate with investigators probing the death of celebrated singer Zubeen Garg.
In a Facebook post, Mahanta wrote, “Respected people, I am coming soon, informing the police. I will fully cooperate with the government and administration. I have nothing to hide and will answer all the questions asked by the SIT. There should be a very high-level investigation in all directions. Everything related to the death of my dearest Zubeen should be examined, and I wish the truth will come out well.”
The development comes after Zubeen’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, along with his sister-in-law, Palme Barthakur and a family uncle, filed a complaint with the CID naming those present during the Singapore incident — including Mahanta and Zubeen’s manager, Siddharth Sharma. The family has demanded a detailed investigation into the role of all members on the trip, underscoring the need for accountability and transparency.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed on Saturday that a lookout notice has been issued against both Siddharth Sharma and Mahanta. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has also summoned them to join the investigation within 10 days.
Meanwhile, the CID has intensified its probe, conducting raids at Mahanta’s residence for two consecutive days. Officials confirmed the seizure of several “incriminating” documents and items during the searches.
A case has been registered against Mahanta under Sections 61(2), 105, and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
