Shillong, Jan 29: Nongkseh Sports Social and Cultural Club (NSSCC) was felicitated by Raid Sawkur Nongkseh on Wednesday following its title-winning campaign at the 11th Chief Minister’s International Gold Cup 2026 in Jorethang, South Sikkim.
The Gold Cup victory capped a strong season for Nongkseh, which also saw the club lift the First Division Football League and the Champions Cup, making it a three-trophy year under head coach Richardson Nongneng.
NSSCC president Daniel Thangkhiew said the club’s progress has been driven by disciplined football and long-term planning.
Thangkhiew noted that several players from established clubs opted to play for Nongkseh in the First Division, attracted by the project rather than financial incentives.
He added that the club is set to sign three more local players to strengthen their squad and will soon unveil its new jerseys.
Meghalaya Football Association president Hamletson Dohling and Shillong Sports Association president Banteidor Lyngdoh said the Gold Cup win has strengthened Meghalaya’s standing on the regional football stage.
Mylliem MLA Ronnie V. Lyngdoh said Nongkseh’s success was encouraging, particularly with a squad dominated by young Khasi players, and expressed hope that the club would continue to compete beyond the state.
Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla said the state’s policy of providing government jobs to medal-winning sportspersons at the National Games, Asian Games, Olympics and Paralympics would help athletes focus on performance without uncertainty about their future.
