Sikkim: Ex-CM Paban Chamling gets into heated debate with CM Golay, marshalled out of Assembly

Gangtok, April 10: The Sikkim Legislative Assembly on Monday witnessed heated scenes amid the fallout of the Singtam violence, with speaker Arun Upreti walking out several SKM legislators taking part in the altercation.

On Monday, the Sikkim Assembly was hosting a special assembly in clarification of Clause 4 and 5’s addition to the IT Exemption recently passed by the Finance Bill in Lok Sabha.

Former Sikkim chief minister Pawan Kumar Chamling got into verbal altercation with Leader of the House Prem Singh Golay over discussion on the two clauses.

Golay was highlighting the various incidents and notification in the past regime when 371F was violated by the previous government led by Pawan Kumar Chamling.

There after Chamling got up and got into a verbal alteration, got into the well of the Assembly, went very close to the Leader of the House to oppose, demanding Point of Order.

Golay was specifically highlighting the Companies Act passed in 2013 which has not been passed in Sikkim as it stands against the Sikkim Companies Act 1961 under Article 371F.

SDF legislator Pawan Kumar Chamling was also marshalled out of Sikkim Assembly. Chamling disrupted the leader of the House Prem Singh Golay’s discussion on Clause 4 and 5 of IT exemption. Chamling demanded ‘point of order’ which he was denied.

Speaking to reporters outside the assembly, Pawan Kumar Chamling said, “It’s been proved that there is no democracy in Sikkim. The present government has failed in all regards. Today, they have marshalled me out from the Assembly, when I raised the important issue.”

Sikkim chief minister Prem Singh Golay said, “The opposition leader Paban Singh Chamling could not except the truth that’s why he has done drama in Assembly.”
