Guwahati, Sept 20: Singapore authorities have initiated an investigation into the tragic death of Assam’s musical icon Zubeen Garg, who passed away in Singapore earlier this week.
Back home, the Assam government has also moved into action. Multiple FIRs filed across the state against Syamkanu Mahanta, chief organiser of the North East India Festival, and Sidharth Sarma, Garg’s manager, have been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a consolidated probe.
Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters, “Singapore has already started an investigation into the case. Since the incident occurred outside India, the criminal aspects will be pursued by Singapore. However, if there was any wrongdoing from Assam, we will investigate that as well.”
The CM added, “An FIR has been lodged at Morigaon police station against Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sarma. Assam Police have registered the FIR and an investigation will happen. Both Mahanta and Sarma, along with those who were with Zubeen Garg in Singapore, will come under scrutiny.”
He further assured, “The government will conduct an impartial investigation. If anyone wishes to testify against them, we will extend full support and make all necessary arrangements for a fair inquiry.”
