Shillong, May 8: BJP legislator from South Shillong Sanbor Shullai on Wednesday inaugurated the renovated Additional Water Supply Scheme at Madan Laban here.
The scheme was funded under AMRUT Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation Central Scheme 2021-2032-2023-2024 and is being implemented jointly by PHE government of Meghalaya and the Shillong Municipal Board at a cost of Rs 7,74,15,000.
Built during the British era in 1936, the water tank was used for storage of 2.25 lakhs litre to supply water to the residents of Laban and Madan Laban besides other adjacent localities.
During the inauguration, local MLA Sanbor Shullai released the water through new pipes in a small ceremony which was attended by local residents.

Speaking on the occasion, Shullai said that renovation of the additional water supply includes replacement of new pipes for distribution to various tanks at Laban and Madan Laban.
Shullai said that the renovation of the water tank and its distribution line would ensure that there is no disruption in water supply to the residents.
“The scheme was first conceptualised in 2019-2020 where we had series of meeting to renovate this water tank which was built during the British era and now this project has been completed which will benefit the people of the constituency” said Shullai.
Shullai said that this project will benefit the constituency as the area has witnessed the growth of pollution and households as well as guest houses, hotels beside government and private offices.
He added that renovation of the water tank and water distribution will ensure that there will be no interruption in the supply of water to the residents of the constituency.
