A man narrowly escaped an attempted robbery on Tuesday night after two individuals allegedly tried to assault and steal from him along the Oxford–Last Stop road in Laban, Shillong around 8 pm
Several non-tribals were apprehended after they failed to produce valid documents during a checking drive conducted by Khasi Students' Union (KSU) in the Laban area on Friday.
The construction led by KSU’s Laban circle is a way of protest to send a message to the government that they would not allow any ‘illegal’ non-tribal to settle in the area.
In a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, president of the KSU Laban Circle Reuben Najiar said that there is a huge number of illegal settlers settling in the area without the consent or approval of the Dorbar Shnong Kenches Trace Oxford Rilbong or any appropriate authority for that matter.
