State Zoo’s construction at Ri Bhoi underway at full swing

Shillong, Dec 11: The under-construction State Zoo of Meghalaya at Umtrew, Ri Bhoi is expected to see the light of the day in the next few months.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had laid the foundation stone of the Zoo during the valedictory functions of the Wildlife Week on October 1, 2019. Hub News recently made a field visit to check on the progress of the zoo. It was noticed that the ongoing construction at full swing with the intention to complete the construction of different cages and the office building at the earliest.

It may be mentioned that the much awaited state zoo was sanctioned at a whooping amount of around Rs. 17 crores.

The State Zoo will host different species of wildlife available in the State and outside of the State.

“This Zoo will be a place where the people especially the children will get a chance to see the wildlife of the State while learning to take care and respect these animals,” the Chief Minister had said during the inauguration program on October 1.

He had further added that the Zoo should not only be a place of entertainment but a centre of learning, respecting, protecting, rescue and conservation of wildlife.
