Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh has confirmed that the rehabilitation of street hawkers at Khyndailad will be finalized by July. The initiative will see the relocation of approximately 200 legitimate hawkers from the area.
In a splendid ceremony at Vivanta, Khyndailad, the Miss Universe Meghalaya launch event was inaugurated by the Tourism and Arts & Culture Minister, Paul Lyngdoh, who unveiled the official crown for the upcoming Miss Universe Meghalaya, in the presence of dignitaries and Miss Universe India team.
Deputy Chief Minister in charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar on Tuesday informed that the department is in the process of identifying places to rehabilitate hawkers from Khyndailad area.
Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Tuesday attended the strawberry festival held at Khyndailad located at the heart of the city and said that the taste of strawberry grown in Meghalaya is of ‘world class’.
The exercise is necessary to make Khyndailad as a ‘pedestrian zone’ and as a ‘music hub’ – to welcome tourists and visitors to Shillong, also known as the music capital of India.
