Must read

Imphal, July 16: Security forces intensified search operations and area domination exercises across Manipur on Thursday setting up 113 checkpoints (nakas) in hill and valley districts as part of heightened security measures in fringe and vulnerable areas.

Officials said the coordinated operations were aimed at maintaining law and order, preventing the movement of illegal arms and other contraband, and enhancing security in sensitive areas amid the prevailing situation in the state.

During the operations, two persons were detained by security personnel. However, officials have not yet disclosed their identities or the reasons for their detention.

In a separate operation, security forces reportedly arrested an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) [KCP (PWG)], identified as Tourangbam David Singh alias Sanamba (24), from his residence at Wangjing Bazar Lamding Laishram Leikai under Thoubal Police Station in Thoubal district.

Independent confirmation of the arrest from official police sources was not immediately available. However, security agencies have stepped up operations against insurgent groups in recent weeks, with several KCP (PWG) cadres arrested in Imphal East and Thoubal districts during June and July.
