Shillong, Jul 16: The Tripartite Agreement Review Team has urged the government to speed up project implementation and improve quality across North Garo Hills, citing gaps in education, healthcare and rural administration.
Led by BJP Tura MDC Bernard N Marak, the team inspected Resubelpara Community Health Centre and Mendipathar Community College during its visit.
The team noted that while the Agreement has helped improve services in Garo Hills, key areas still need attention.
It flagged the poor condition of primary education in rural villages and said strengthening elementary schools should be the top priority.
At Mendipathar Community College, the only college in the district, the team found infrastructure and faculty shortages limiting student intake.
It recommended immediate expansion, more staff recruitment, and higher admission capacity. It also proposed setting up Community Colleges in Resubelpara, Bajengdoba and Kharkutta, and upgrading Kharkutta to a full Sub-Division.
At Resubelpara CHC, the team observed staff shortages despite high patient load. It urged the government to complete the 100-bedded Civil Hospital this year and ensure it is fully staffed and equipped before inauguration.
The review also highlighted that several new Development Blocks are functioning without Gram Sevaks, affecting rural schemes.
It called for urgent recruitment.
Officials from the Art and Culture department informed the team that sites for a proposed District Museum have been identified.
The team expressed disappointment over the absence of NHIDCL, MBDA and other agencies from the review.
The team reiterated that projects under the Tripartite Agreement must be completed on time with proper quality to ensure people see real benefits.
