Three new ambulances rolled out in Rangsakhona to strengthen rural healthcare

Must read

TURA, June 15: Healthcare services in Meghalaya’s Rangsakhona constituency received a major boost on Monday with the deployment of three new ambulances under the Special Rural Works Programme (SRWP) Scheme 2023-24, aimed at improving emergency medical response in remote areas.

The ambulances were handed over to Garobadha Primary Health Centre, Rangsakona Primary Health Centre, and Dorambok Health and Wellness Centre during a programme held at the Nirupama Memorial Higher Secondary School playground.

Rangsakhona MLA Subir M. Marak, who attended the event as the chief guest, said the ambulances would help bridge a long-standing gap in emergency healthcare services, particularly for critically ill patients requiring timely transportation to medical facilities.

“The need for ambulance services has been felt for a long time in this region. These vehicles will ensure quicker access to healthcare and strengthen medical services in rural areas,” Marak told Hub News.

The ambulances were formally handed over to the doctors-in-charge of the three health institutions in the presence of South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Anendya Rajshree, District Medical and Health Officer Himanshu Barman, and other officials.

Residents welcomed the initiative, describing it as a much-needed intervention for villages where health centres had been operating without dedicated ambulance facilities. Local resident Greatwill M. Marak said the new vehicles would provide critical support to patients and families during medical emergencies.
