Bihar Assembly’s Subordinate Legislation Committee studies Meghalaya’s Legislative practices

SHILLONG, JUN 15: A delegation from the Committee on Subordinate Legislation of the Bihar Legislative Assembly held an interaction with its counterpart from the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on Monday during a study visit to the state.

The meeting was chaired by Meghalaya Speaker Thomas A Sangma.

The Bihar delegation was led by Committee Chairman Manohar Prasad Singh and included members Chinmay Atit Singh, Murari Mohan Jha, Pankaj Thakur, Sujit Kumar, Abidur Rahman and Aasif.

They were accompanied by officials Suraj Kumar, Pankaj Kumar Rai, Shubham Kumar, Abhishek Kumar and Chandan Kumar Jaiswal. Representing Meghalaya were Committee Chairman Gavin Miguel Mylliem and members Dr. Mizanur Rahman Kazi and Damanbait Lamare.

Secretary of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Malthus S Sangma and other officers of the Assembly Secretariat also attended.

Speaking after the interaction, Speaker Thomas A Sangma said, “The Bihar Committee on Subordinate Legislation is on a study tour of Meghalaya and has paid a courtesy visit to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. I am pleased to receive the delegation and the interaction between the two committees has been both productive and insightful.”

Sangma informed that members discussed the present functioning of the Committees on Subordinate Legislation in their respective assemblies and exchanged views on legislative procedures, best practices and operational mechanisms.

“Members from both states shared their experiences and the discussion was highly constructive,” he added.

The Speaker noted that the visiting delegation took keen interest in Meghalaya’s committee system.

“The Bihar delegation was impressed by its visit to Meghalaya and found the discussions beneficial. They appreciated the practices adopted by our State Legislature,” Sangma said.
