Imphal, Aug 10: Three village volunteers from the Kuki-Zo community were allegedly killed on Friday in Manipur’s Molnoi village.

According to police reports, the incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. when gunfire erupted, resulting in the deaths of the three volunteers.

“Acting on information about their location, a joint operation was launched by security forces, including the Border Security Force and the Assam Rifles, leading to the deaths of the three individuals,” a police official stated.

Officials also reported that a house in the Molnom village area was set on fire. The house allegedly belonged to S.S. Haokip, who is said to be associated with the United Kuki Liberation Front, an insurgent group involved in a Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with the Government of India.

Sources indicated that the firing was due to a “misunderstanding” between one of the SoO groups and a group of village volunteers, both of whom have been guarding the Kuki-Zo side of the buffer zone since the conflict began.

The bodies of the three village volunteers have been recovered and are being kept in a Kuki-Zo village near the area.
