Shillong, Nov 26: The voice of helplessness of the Tibetan people has reached the capital of Meghalaya, Shillong, where the Tibetan Women’s Association (TWA) Central Committee has voiced out against the oppression of the Chinese Government against them.

Addressing the press on Friday in Shillong, President of TWA Tenzing Dolma said, “We urge the Government of India to call on the Chinese leadership to engage with the envoys of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and resume the stalled Sino-Tibet dialogue based on the ‘Middle Way Approach’ to peacefully resolve the issue of Tibet.”

Recently the Chinese Government has called upon Dalai Lama saying the Chinese Government is open for talks about his personal future but not issues related to Tibet. Questioning the point of this dialogue, Tenzing said “the Chinese government should allow our leader to express for the well being of the Tibetans, we are ill treated and we cannot voice out as there is no freedom of press.”

The TWA also appealed to the Government of India and Indian leaders to join the global call for release of Gendhun Choekyi Nyima, the 11th Panchen Lama of Tibet, who has been missing for the last 26 years.

Taking a serious note of the significance of Tibet’s Environment as the Earth’s third pole and Asia’s water tower, and its impact in Asian countries including India and China, the TWA urged the Government of India to engage with the Chinese leadership and address the detrimental effects of China’s development projects in Tibet that endanger Tibet’s fragile environment.

Given India’s role in promoting religious harmony, and considering the fact that Buddhism originated from India, TWA president Tenzing Dolma appealed to the Government of India to address the issue of religious repression in Tibet and thereby protect the religious freedom of Tibetans in Tibet.

Stating that the government of China does not value human rights, the TWA president also urged the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and athletes worldwide to boycott the 2022 Winter Olympics in China and say ‘No to Beijing 2022!!’
