Agartala, July 25: A nine-member delegation of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) on Thursday met BJP President J.P. Nadda in New Delhi and discussed the pressing need to implement the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Tripura.
The delegation was led by TMP supremo Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma.
The party also discussed the implementation of the tripartite accord signed on March 2 last year with Nadda, also the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister.
TMP leaders, along with two state ministers — Animesh Debbarma and Brishaketu Debbarma — and Kriti Devi Debbarma, Lok Sabha MP from Tripura East, were present at the meeting.
Later, the nine-member TMP delegation, led by Debbarma, met the full Election Commission of India (ECI), headed by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, and demanded the SIR in Tripura, similar to the procedure being followed in Bihar.
In a letter to the ECI, the TMP urged that the SIR of the electoral rolls in Tripura be conducted along with a comprehensive door-to-door verification exercise, akin to the model recently adopted in Bihar.
